I had hoped to do more again these past nights but I just… didn’t. My energy has just.. gone.

Friday I put watched Don’t Look now on tv (after The Pitt) and my focus wasn’t there for it. Saturday I watched Planet Of Fire just fine but Sunday I was just… gone. Same Monday. It’s so incredibly irritating, ugh. I just wanna be able to watch and do stuff but my body is like nope.

Sigh

I had hoped to watched things but I didn’t even manage to watch Tales From 85 (bar one ep after The Pitt) which ugh.

Gaming wise I did do Alien Isolation’s Crew Expendable dlc for Alien Day. It was just a short thing but it was nice to explore a bit of the Nostromo. (I’ve not finished the main game though, but a sequel is coming.) On the other hand yesterday I started Tiny Book Shop on game pass which was cute, plus there’s a dog to pet (I assume you can make him your friend as the game goes on too)

Yesterday mum’s friend came but thankfully it didn’t mean going anywhere which was good. Today though the weather turned chilly and the noises resumed outside after a few week break ugh. Also there was also an issue with the food shop, when the delivery guy almost left us without fridge stuff (and he’d not parked outside to go after him). Thankfully he realised and came back but ugh.

On the plus side the new mandalorian and Grogu Robinsons drink is really nice.

As mentioned above Saturday was the next of Who ray run, Planet Of Fire.

Planet Of Fire is very much a checklist episode (something which the making of confirmed). It had to introduce a new companion (Peri), be the last ep of another (Turlough), include the master (and his possible ‘death’), bring back and get rid of Kamelion and feature Lanzarote as a location. As always with a checklist like that results are mixed.

Peri’s introduction was ok, but it could’ve been better. She’s very much one of those companions that inadvertently ends up in the tardis rather than choosing to be. But I guess she got what she wanted, adventure away from her step father.

Turlough’s departure fares better, as this was very much a Turlough centric ep unlike some departure eps. Though it did feel like a bit of an info dump at times about his past. Still him heading home with a brother her never knew was a good ending, better than some anyway.

Kamelion was a bit eh. I mean I can see the appeal of him but it was clear he didn’t work from the first ep. Why they didn’t just write him out the pan I’ll never know. It’s weird cause he’s essentially been hanging in the tardis for… however many eps without even a mention (I wonder if people had even forgot he was there at the time). It’s funny then that this was also a story about him but it has no weight to it since he was a non entity for so long.

The master returning worked out ok and the reveal of him in the box was funny, but him being put to the flames of course wasn’t the end of him as we know, maybe if it was it would’ve hit different.

The location was used pretty well both as itself (Peri’s story starts in Lanzarote) and the surface of Sarn the titular planet. Being in such a location does give it a truly alien feel so kudos to that but you can tell it was a nightmare to shoot due to the terrain.

All in all it was an ok ep. Again I’m not sure if it’s cause of the recent tiredness but I just… didn’t vibe with it really. Next time (who knows when!) will be Caves Of Androzani that I can remember watching ages ago but only vaguely.

The making of was also unintentionally funny as it felt like every 5 minutes they shoehorned a new song in randomly which was amusing. But it was also funny that they filmed Peru’s drowning near a nudist beach and didn’t realise until they started filming. (Where a naked German went rushing to her aid thinking she was actually in trouble).

Tonight’s plan is maybe watch something but it depends on how my eyes feel. If it’s anything like the last days it might not be much but hopefully I can watch something,

Once again the past days have been low energy with my focus not being as there as I hoped.

Castle reruns started on channel 5 this week so we’ve ended up watching those. It’s such a great show and it’s so good seeing it from the start. I’m just a sucker for detective shows, especially with an outside consultant, they’re always fun.

I watched the other resurrection of the daleks special features, which were mostly with Janet Fielding (Tegan) and damn. I’d no idea that she’d had cancer, or that she’d been married to someone that she found out was dealing arms. Like ?? That’s so crazy. Plus there were cute seals.

I’ve also been continuing Tomodachi Life, which now has 3/4’s of MCR (minus Frank) and four people from Stranger Things (Dustin, Steve, Jonathan and Argyle). It’s funny seeing them go around doing their silly lil things. I wish I had art skills to make use of custom stuff and I do hope they add more things. I think the best of the miis I’ve made were Seapeekay and Ray.

I am still going on Pokopia, mostly still trying to get rid of ash. I think I have all the recipes now (bar the last few levelling ones) though I still need to get Pokémon. But the ash has sidetracked me and there’s so so much. Person who decided on that, you’re insane.

Also I watched Maul Shadow Lord, albeit a bit belatedly. Ugh the empire is there and being assholes. I really hope we get stuff that isn’t so empire centric some day but this was still pretty good. It was surprising how they made Marrok’s comeback so threatening too.

Wednesday was a trip to get mums meds which went wrong cause some weren’t there and so that’s caused issues (she has a certain make, but apparently they’re not getable anymore and we don’t know why). I did get a marvel rivals graphic novel and the usual Lego magazines from sainsburys, plus gaming books from Aldi but not much else.

So Stranger Things Tales From 85 went live yesterday and I watched the first two eps (I’d have watched another but, as is often the case tiredness hit) so thoughts ahoy.

Before I go into detail I have enjoyed it so far in general. But more thoughts are under the cut (with - when we get to more detail to avoid spoilers)

So yeah I think I might try and watch the series over the weekend (superseding the plans I originally had for nighttime stuff).

General night time stuff I wanna watch being Heated Rivalry, The Beauty and Pizza Movie (plus I wanna finally get back to Welcome to Derry I’m determined to finish the last eps over the next two weeks). Also I am thinking of doing a Mandalorian rewatch but I dunno i can squeeze it in before the film. We’ll see.

Plus I wanna watch the blu rays of Warning From Space (and maybe other things too, like Life Force, Sacred Spirit and Weapons).

But next week is one of those busy weeks. Mum’s friend coming (ugh), food shop delivery, mum’s birthday and free comic book day/theatre open day.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm taking search offline sometime today to upgrade the server to a new instance type. It should be down for a day or so -- sorry for the inconvenience. If you're curious, the existing search machine is over 10 years old and was starting to accumulate a decade of cruft...!

Also, apparently these older machines cost more than twice what the newer ones cost, on top of being slower. Trying to save a bit of maintenance and cost, and hopefully a Wednesday is okay!

Edited: The other cool thing is that this also means that the search index will be effectively realtime afterwards... no more waiting a few minutes for the indexer to catch new content.

What is happening?

So last night I ended up watching the next of the Doctor Who run, which was Resurrection Of The Daleks. It’s always funny to me that the last three Dalek stories of old who were R word of the daleks.

With a title like that there’s no room for doubt who the villains are gonna be. Sometimes I do wonder if they considered making these eps without Dalek in the title, as so many old who ones (including this one) hold them back for awhile. Then again maybe the thing isn’t the surprise of them showing up, but the anticipation, knowing they’ll show up.

Anyway, the basic plot of the thing is after the last dalek ep (way back in Destiny of the Daleks) Davros is captured and being held in a prison, but the daleks want him back to help them after a virus depleted their numbers.

I did really like this one, even though it is pretty bleak. Much like Warriors Of The Deep virtually everyone in this one dies so it has a really high body count. The thing is though it is a Dalek episode, so lots of people dying isn’t exactly a surprise.

That said some eps lean into that by making us not care about the people. However this ep does have interesting people. (Bar the people killed at the start which did feel a tad needless) There’s a military bomb squad, an interesting mercenary called Lytton plus the crew of the space station holding Davros.

Said crew is a highlight partly because the script called it an ‘international ‘ space station and the crew took that literally, casting black and Indian actors in key roles which made the crew notably diverse which was nice to see. My fav of the crew was Styles, the Doctor. I just loved her whole attitude. Though it was funny that the stations actual captain (mentioned numerous times as a dick) never shown up and just got killed offscreen.

It does puzzle me know that the prison holding such a dangerous captive isn’t full equipped to deal with a Dalek attack. Then again he has been there for 90 years, so maybe they figured they’d have done it by now and so gotten lax as a result.

Of course Davros also betrays the daleks, which means the daleks plan would’ve been screwed up even without the doctor being there (which happens too in the next dalek ep). Ironically by making sure the doctor was caught in the time corridor all they did was unsure they’d get fully destroyed.

It’s also Tegan’s last ep and her decision to go makes sense, it’s certain valid after the death, but it is a shame the ep wasn’t more focussed on her as a result. She’s pretty much kept in one place most of the time which is a shame but at least the team get to face off against the daleks (and the fifth doctor gets to push one out a window which is cool!). Plus the locations and sets used are really good. I was really surprised the interiors of the warehouse were sets and not just shot there, they looked so good. Plus I’did really like the costumes, even though the Dalek trooper helmets did look a tad silly.

All in all solid ep, next is Planet of Fire, which might be next week after watching the other special features. (resurrection has two discs)

Yesterday ended up being a low energy day (hence not doing this post then) I did end up getting Tomodachi life and the island is Seapeekay, Waterparks, 5 Seconds Of Summer and now Ray Toro. The funny thing is that Callum and Geoff fell for each other pretty quickly which was so funny, so they were a couple within a day of getting the game (Callum even wanted to propose! Though I messed up the mini game). But they are so in love, I gave them guitars and they both serenaded each other, it’s so cute. (Key topics of discussion on the island are boy kissing and eating ass)

I do love all the customisation features, with the quirks and stuff and I’m look8ng forward to seeing the other antics they’ll get up to (and adding more). I just wish I was a better artist for the customisation stuff.

(I am a bit annoyed though that there wasn’t a new High Potential ep to watch yesterday like WTF? Why’d it end the season on that?? At least there’s another one coming but gah)

Also today we finally went back to see the ducklings and we got to see them! Pic under the cut.

I also had an email from hmv with a deal on and I’m wondering if anyone can look over these and let me know if they’ve seen them. The only one I’ve seen is Broadcast Signal Intrusion (which has Harry Shum Jr) but that was forever ago. I’m thinking of We’re All Going To The Worlds Fair cause I’ve heard it mentioned and I’m curious but…

This week is gonna be a pretty quiet week with no cinema trips (planned anyway) and I’m only really heading out cause of picking up mums meds. I do wanna read more (looking at you Mandalorian and Grogu visual guide and Strange Pictures and Heated Rivalry) and watch more stuff (looking at you Heated Rivalry and The Beauty) but the stranger things animated series is this week and I have a morbid curiosity. I sense it’ll just raise unnecessary questions. But at the same time, plant monsters

So I did end up going today, though more cause mum announced (last night) that I was ‘going no matter what’ which kinda meant I didn’t have a choice.

The new sfx came this morning, so I took that with me and read some of the reviews. The cover of the issue is about Stranger things tales of 85, plus the issue has stuff on From (which I need to watch) and some horror things. The teaser for the next one has Lestat (I still need to watch Interview).

Once I was in town I went straight to the record store and didn’t have too much luck. It had been open since 8 and I got there after 10 so I wasn’t surprised the BMTH album had gone (and they didn’t even get the Pokémon one). It wasn’t a total loss though, I did get the Doctor Who one, which was a red vinyl of The Rescue.

The Smiths had Star Wars cards which surprised me so I got some, along with some cheap sweets and drink.

Then I went in the art gallery. Third floor was closed to prep for a new exhibit and some other rooms seemed closed off too alas, but there was a nice photography one on the top floor and I saw my fav painting that they have (this one). What surprised me though was seeing there was a Picasso and a Van Gogh in the regular collection.

(Speaking of art we’ve been watching something about japan every week night, one ep had cute deer! And mum saw the great wave painting and loved it which was sweet)

I didn’t go anywhere else really but from a cancer charity shop I got a bake off apron, Fairy Tail dvd, Agatha Christie book and hellfire duvet set.

At the cinema I had waffle fries and read some of the sfx.

I ended up seeing The Magic Faraway Tree and The Mummy which were both wildly different. One was U and the other was 18.

But first trailers. A fair few were ones I’d seen but new to me were
Charlie the wonderdog: looks fun enough, basically a dog gaining powers cause of aliens and so saves people (plus there’s an evil cat)
Hitpig: trailer felt too short to come up with proper thoughts but it looks nice
Ice Cream Man: First time seeing the trailer and… eh. I don’t think I’ll see it. (Kids killing adults causa something in ice cream just doesn’t sound appealing)
Evil Dead Burn: wasn’t too sure what to make of trailer but then I’ve not seen Evil Dead fully before so…

Other stuff was standard current horror film trailers: Passenger (not the new one sadly), Obsession, Backrooms (yay Backrooms twink!), Hokum (a new trailer, which is better at selling it). I’m probably gonna see all of those.

And now film thoughts. Under a cut as always.

That ends month 9 of the pass. Ironically I’ve seen 9 films during it, which is the most I’ve done in a month. (Also with these last 2 I’m over 20 for the year already which is crazy when you think most ray I’d be lucky to hit 5 the whole year).

Month 9: March 20th - April 20th
20: Project Hail Mary
2: They Will Kill You, Ready Or Not Here I Come
4: Arco, Super Mario Galaxy (3D)
13: Exit 8, Undertone
18: The Magic Faraway Tree, The Mummy

Obviously my fav of these was a Project Hail Mary but most of them are all pretty strong. I feel They Will Kill You is the only real weak link and even that was still entertaining enough.

Next cinema trip should be Hokum or maybe the Sheep Detectives or both (but I would like to see Hail Mary again too)

I have, belatedly, watched the next Doctor Who ep in my run (Resurrection Of The Daleks) but thoughts on thwt will come later cause I’ve happend enough and yawning.

Ugh these past few days have been such low energy which has turned to depression energy which… ugh. It’s been a mix of exhausting and annoying.

This hasn’t really been helped by issues the past days too.

First the cats haven’t been eating that ludicrously expensive food mum strongarmed me into trying for them. The usual stuff didn’t come with the shopping either so right after the food shop was delivered I off, alone and tired, to the co-op by the station. Naturally that meant I came back and was tired, so just flopped upstairs.

Wednesday mum got moody, which leaked onto me so that night was just… bleh. I dunno I try and keep my bad moods/thoughts inside so they don’t infect people and she doesn’t even bother.

Yesterday was already gonna be stressful cause of the stupid call. At least it’s with the usual one guy, who is usually just a yapper instead of being rude.

But ugh. So last week the vacuum stopped working and I told mum when my money went in I’d see about sorting one. Trouble is she found one on Amazon and it was on easy payments, which was fine… until it had been put on an old card and when I changed it to a current one it must have changed it so instead of being around £22 out came almost £140 which… ugh. I didn’t even know until I checked money yesterday before it came and was so frustrated.

Mum paniced about it and almost sent it back but I just…ugh. It’s the timing which is irritating. It’s record store day tomorrow and the whole thing has really put me off wanting to go.

The record shop has put up details (so I know prices of all the stuff) but it also opens at 8 am which is pretty much an impossibility to get there for so even if I go I might not get what I want (and one thing I hoped for isn’t in the listening). So… ugh I dunno what’s happening tomorrow. I’ve gone back and forth all day and it’s not helped my mood.

(Also oddly free comic book day, which is in two weeks, doesn’t have any marvel stuff at all. Usually it has a regular Marvel thing, sometimes 2, and a Star Wars one, but there’s nothing which is so odd)

***

Oh the good side of things (cause there has been some).

I got just one thing from the hmv Arrow sale, which was Warning From Space which came the other day. It’s a Japanese sci fi film with literal starfish aliens so I’ve wanted to see it for awhile. I’d also preordered Cold Storage (as a 4k exclusive) and got a student discount for both which was a plus.

Monday was also Maul, which was pretty good! I love the series so far.

Unfortunately I’ve not felt like reading anything, either comics, magazines or books, mostly cause mood and energy have been trash which sucks. Nor have I been able to watch stuff (I had hoped to watch the next Doctor Who ep and the Artemis thing that was on tv but saw neither)

Yesterday a package from [personal profile] fadefur came which included a cute lil snail, t-shirt, pins and other nice things plus a sweet note. There was also the Dustin figure which is so cool! It’s still baffling to me they only did 3 series 5 figures that scale. I know they’d not do everyone but you’d think they’d have done at least Vecna and Will. but ah well.

There was also a new Mandalorian trailer last which was so cool. I really am so hyped for the film! It’s wild that the odeon are getting an AT-AT popcorn bucket which apparently has lights and sounds and looks wild.

Today’s been a low energy day, but I did go on the Tomodachi Life demo thing which has made me want the full game. Maybe I’ll get it tomorrow if I don’t go, or if the main record I want isn’t there.
